Role of modern science.

Role of modern science
Introduction
What would be the best way to define science?  Science is the tool to satisfy human needs and ambitions. Humans use science for almost everything. If this tool was not here; we would have been in a world without clothes, entertainment, housing, education, health and good sources of food. Cooking using fire/heat is said to be the first discovery. This breakthrough made us to seek out for knowledge. This search for knowledge made human beings the most abundant creature and sophisticated animal on the planet.

So what is modern science? It is said that modern science started in the 16th century during the scientific revolution. It improves the qualities of the following 6 sectors: food, clothes, education, health, housing and entrainment. Modern science will keep on developing till it fulfils mans desires and their ambitions. It is in this era of modern science that many scientific inventions have come to be, like the light bulb, telephone and plastic.

Food

When we look in the food category, modern science is constantly trying to make healthy and nutritious food. Scientists are improving the genetics of food to make them immune to diseases contracted by insects that feed on them. For example, a genetically engineered plum is immune to a disease called plum pox. Scientists have altered the structure of the plum by inserting a syringe filled with a substance that makes the plum immune. Plum pox not only infects plums but many other fruit. This new plum creates more harvest, so more humans can enjoy the fruit. Also scientists are working on the tastes. So when humans eat them they taste sweeter. As of 2010, 925 million people in the world are under starvation or malnutrition.

Clothes

Modern science has allowed human beings to design and create clothes to survive the harshest environments thrown at us by Mother Nature. Scientists have developed special materials that are fire resistant, windproof and materials that can withstand highly corrosive acids. Workers who work with molten metal were special clothes that protect them from the heat and splashes of molten metal that could burn through normal clothes and flesh. The suits worn by astronauts have special technology. In the fabric of the suits tubes are woven into it, so liquids can circulate inside the tube to keep the astronaut cool. This technology is also used by formula 1 mechanics. Other clothes are made to be bullet proof. This is useful for soldiers and police officers.

Accommodation

The knowledge in science has taught us how to prevent ourselves from natural disasters.  When earthquakes happen now, buildings are protected by earthquake proof technology that stops the buildings from collapsing. Science has come a long way in housing from caves to large houses. Scientists and engineers have created eco-homes that are sustainable and comfortable to live in. Adam Kalkin, an artist and architect have designed houses that can be set up in minutes. The houses are modified shipping container that opens up to be a room or house. If science keeps on developing there might be tsunami proof building that can withstand the force of water hitting very fast on sides of the building. This was not possible before.

Education

Education is very important for humans. Better ways of taking in education will give knowledge to humans which will help the development of science. Now classrooms are equipped with interactive smart board which enriches learning. This will help students learn more about science and one day this might help one of the six categories. Without education science cannot develop any further, because humans would not get the knowledge they need for new discoveries and milestones in science. The discovery of the Higgs Boson (God particle) would not happen without education. The engineers of the large Hadron collider (a 17 mile long powerful machine) would not be able to build the collider without education.

Health

Modern science has allowed health to flourish on earth by pioneering discoveries such as anaesthesia which has revolutionised surgery by allowing the patients to feel nothing. It has allowed doctors and scientists to create medicine which greatly helps us. A scientist called Edward Jenner discovered a vaccine (this was the first vaccine) against smallpox which was a severe and deadly disease at his time. The vaccine saved many lives and smallpox has eradicated completely. Since then many other vaccines were discovered to prevent people getting the targeted disease. Other famous vaccines are targeted to prevent typhoid, chickenpox, HPV, Rota virus and Polio. Without modern science we will be in a world overrun with diseases and harmful substances.

Entertainment

Humans use science mostly for entertainment. The latest development in science is telecommunication and information technology. This has greatly helped to revolutionize entertainment facilities for humans. Without entertainment this world would be dull and boring. Science has created TVs with 4k displays, 3d vision and smartness. New phones come with new smart features. Before phones, TVs and other electronic entertainment, the only entertainment was visiting the theatre and watch drams on stage live. It may not have smart features like 3d vision but it was very fun to watch.

Conclusion

The role of modern science is to reform the current society to ultramodern society, alleviating all problems faced by humanity. In turn, the modern society will propel the scientific research and development to new horizons till the point human desires are fulfilled. We can reform the society faster with education, because education is the key to reformation. When people learn more they get ideas that can improve the categories in science.
